So while I was showering I was ruminating over this post on Tumblr. Specifically, the part that went like "that's someone's mom playing Genshin Impact". And then I got thinking.
For those of y'all that don't know, I am working on a massive fanfiction for Keep Fandom Weird (which is still ongoing despite the mod saying they'd do the roundup post a week ago). And one of the fandoms I'm doing it for is... PolarDread. Which, if you don't know, is a free VR horror game that started out as a FNAF fangame, but kinda morphed into its own IP that's legally distinct enough to be able to get paid DLC.
And I have no idea why (probably because of the similarities to FNAF, which despite not specifically intending to be for kids has a fuckton of kids in the fandom), but I noticed that a significant chunk of the people in the PolarDread fanbase (I'm hesitant to call it "fandom" because the most transformative thing a lot of them do with it is record a LP, which isn't exactly "transformative" per se) are literal children. Not even teens, just plain old children. Which makes things more than a little awkward when establishing oneself as a member of the fandom.
So I guess I am now the "mom who plays Genshin" in this scenario, despite being only 26. But that's OK. It gives me motivation that somewhere down the line, they'll find my fic and be absolutely blown away by it.
